4NT is an alternative operating system shell from JP Software for Windows . The software is a replacement for the command processor cmd.exe , which is supplied as standard from Microsoft Windows NT .
history
4NT is based on the previous shell 4DOS for DOS and Windows versions up to and including Windows Me , older versions were called 4DOS for the Windows NT operating systems .
With version 9.00, 4NT became part of the Take Command shell under the name Take Command Console , which is also sold as shareware and also offers a graphical interface similar to Windows PowerShell .
Functions
4NT provides a wide range of functions for both the command line and batch processing . It can work with other scripting languages such as REXX , Ruby and Perl , or Windows scripting languages such as VBScript and JScript , to provide further access to operating system functions.
4NT offers a number of improvements compared to cmd.exe :

- Improved wildcards and the ability to filter on file sizes, date and time stamps, etc.
