4Q48

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

4Q48 (also 4QJosh b ) is the name of a manuscript from the book of Joshua from Cave 4 in the vicinity of Qumran .

The manuscript probably consists of six fragments on which parts of Jos 2.11–12 (frg. 1), 3.15–4.3 (frg. 2-3) and 17.1–5.11–15 (frg. 4 -5) are preserved. Fragment No. 6 is difficult to decipher and may not belong to the same manuscript. From a palaeographic point of view , the manuscript is considered to be “ late Herodian ” and can therefore be traced back to about the second half of the first century BC. To date. Of textual variants , there are both similarities with the Masoretic text to the Septuagint and vice versa. There are also readings of their own that are otherwise not attested. Due to the fragmentary condition of the manuscript, a more precise classification is hardly possible.
