61 Jamieson Street

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There is a residential building at 61 Jamieson Street in Bowmore , the capital of the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . On July 20, 1971, it was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B as part of an ensemble . In 2006 there was a re-categorization and 61 Jamieson Street has since been listed as a single monument in Category C.

description

The exact time of construction of the building has not been handed down, so that only the later 18th century can be given as the construction period. It is therefore one of the early buildings of the planned city founded around 1770 and is built in the traditional style. The single-storey, free-standing building is entered through a door set in the middle of the front. This is framed symmetrically by two lattice windows . At the back, a long, one-story wing goes off at a right angle. Both parts of the building end with slate-covered gable roofs . The chimneys are made of ashlar. All facades are plastered using the traditional Harling technique.
