Youth football and FC Copenhagen
Cornelius was born in 1993 in the Danish capital Copenhagen, where he grew up and began his football career. His first stations were at Amager , where he played in the offspring of BK Hekla and Fremad Amager and finally moved to the youth division of the Copenhagen club FC Copenhagen . There he went through various youth play classes. At the end of the 2011/12 season he was included in the official squad of the professional team for the first time, after having participated in training camps in Austria and La Manga , Portugal in the summer of 2011 and during the winter break of the 2011/12 season . He finally made his professional league debut on April 9, 2012 in the 0-0 away draw against Aarhus , when he came on the lawn in the 81st minute of play for César Santin . A little more than a month later he came in a 0-1 away defeat against FC Midtjylland for another short league appearance. He was substituted on for the multiple Danish international Thomas Kristensen in the 73rd minute and received the ninth and final yellow card of the game in the 95th minute . With the team he ranked at the end of the season with two points behind champions FC Nordsjælland in second place in the table. In the Danish Football Cup 2011/12 , the team reached the final, in which they finally defeated AC Horsens 1-0 after a goal from Claudemir . However, Cornelius was not used in any of the five cup games.
In the following season, FCK failed in qualifying for the Champions League , in which the team narrowly defeated Club Brugge in the third qualifying round and just as narrowly in the play-off round with an overall score of 1: 2 against OSC Lille from the knocked out the current tournament. Since FC Copenhagen automatically qualified for the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League due to this placement , Cornelius and the team took part in the group stage there, in which the team also failed to advance. The young talented striker was used in all four CL and all six EL qualifying games of his team. He scored one goal and gave an assist. Even before these appearances, he had started with FC Copenhagen in the Danish Super League 2012/13 , where he scored his first compulsory professional goals in the first round match, a 4-2 home win over FC Midtjylland. In the further course of the season, the then 19-year-old not only developed into a regular player in the attack by the Copenhagen team, but also became the top scorer of the team and the league. At the end of the season, when he won the tenth championship title in the club's history with the Lions, he was the top scorer of the highest Danish football league with 18 goals from 32 league appearances; He also made five assists in league games and was eliminated with the team in the 2012/13 Cup in the quarter-finals. He also scored a goal in the cup. Due to his performances this season he has been courted by foreign clubs, including among other English Premier League clubs frequently as the Arsenal FC or Everton FC . In addition, Cornelius, who in England was seen as the new Nicklas Bendtner mainly due to his stature and the equally high risk of headers , was also briefly in conversation with Borussia Dortmund . Further individual awards at the end of the season were the choice of player of the year for FC Copenhagen and the Danish Superliga as well as the Danish young talent of the year.
Cardiff City and again FC Copenhagen
In the summer of 2013, Cornelius moved to Cardiff City . He signed a five-year contract. After only a one-minute short assignment on the second matchday of the Premier League 2013/14 , the Dane was no longer in the squad of the English first division club for a long period and was partly out of play due to an ankle sprain. He then came to a number of short assignments for the Welsh from late November 2013, but was not able to convince until January 2014 either. After seven months, Cornelius was returned to FC Copenhagen, which Cardiff claims to have resulted in a total loss of £ 8.5 million. The club blamed the previously dismissed coach Malky Mackay . Back in Copenhagen he made 13 league appearances, in which he scored five goals; in two other league games he had to sit out because of a suspension after a red card . In the Danish Cup of the 2013/14 season he moved into the final with the team, in which the team lost 4-2 to the then champions Aalborg BK . Cornelius was used in both semi-finals and in the final, where he scored a header in the final.
Via the league route, the team made it into the third qualifying round for the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League , in which the team defeated Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk with a total score of 2-0, to which Cornelius also contributed a goal. In the subsequent play-off phase , the team was unable to prevail against Bayer 04 Leverkusen and was eliminated from the current tournament, but had the opportunity to participate in the group stage of the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League . In 2014/15 , Cornelius was a regular for the Copenhagen team as well and he made a total of 22 league appearances and six league goals, including an ankle injury in the league game against Silkeborg IF on April 13, 2015. In the Europa League group stage they were eliminated from the bottom of the group behind Club Bruges , FC Turin and HJK Helsinki . When the team won the Danish Cup on May 14, 2015 after a 3-2 final win after extra time over FC Vestsjælland in the 2014/15 Cup season , Cornelius was already out due to injury. Nevertheless, he was still involved until the quarter-finals and scored one goal in three cup games. In the league event, the club was again runner-up; this time four points behind FC Midtjylland. Due to his severe ankle injury, Cornelius is expected to be sidelined until mid-October 2015.

National team career
Cornelius had his first appearances in a Danish junior selection in 2010, where he made his debut on October 21, 2010 in a 1: 2 defeat against his age colleagues from Switzerland for the Danish U-18 selection. In the following year he brought it to five more U-18 internationals, where he brought on his last mission, a 3-1 win over the U-18 of Norway to a brace. About three months later he made his debut in a 1-1 draw against Belgium in the Danish U-19 national football team and scored his first U-19 goal. With the team he also took part in the qualification for the U-19 European Championship 2012 and scored a brace against Malta's U-19 selection in this. After the Danes survived the group stage of the qualifying round as group winners, it was not enough for a fixed qualification for the U-19 European Championship in the following elite round. After he had made his last U-19 international appearance at the end of May 2012, he had an appearance statistics of 14 international matches and four goals.
Again just three months later he made his debut on August 15, 2012 for the next higher Danish junior selection, the U-21s of Denmark . In the following years he made various appearances for Denmark's U-21 national team, for which he was often used in European Championship qualifiers, but also several appearances in the senior national team, with which he only just came second in the group stage behind the first Italy in the group stage failed. As the worst runners- up in the group , however, the Danes could not qualify for the relegation games and were eliminated early. In addition, he played various friendlies for both teams and has so far (as of June 29, 2015) played seven games for the U-21 team, for which he contributed two goals, and was also in eight games for Denmark's national team Use for which he scored a goal.
