Rade Prica (born June 30, 1980 in Ljungby ) is a Swedish football player of Serbian descent . The striker , who made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2001 , has played his career in Sweden, Germany, Denmark, England, Norway and Israel.

Career

Career start in Sweden and national team debut

Prica started playing football in his hometown Ljungby at the local club Ljungby IF . At the age of 14, he made his debut for the men's team of the lower-class amateur club and, at the age of 15, earned a regular place. In 1998 the striker moved to Helsingborgs IF in the Allsvenskan and came to his first Bundesliga appearances during the 1998 season , which the club finished as runner-up behind AIK . Under coach Åge Hareide , he was increasingly used in the attack row alongside Arild Stavrum in the course of the following season . With six goals this season, he contributed to the fact that the club dethroned the previous year's champions by one point and, as in the previous year, provided the best storm in the league.

After Hareide had been poached from the Danish club Brøndby IF following the success , Prica reached the group stage of the 2000/01 UEFA Champions League under the direction of Nanne Bergstrand after successes over BATE Baryssau and Inter Milan . At the side of Roland Nilsson , Sven Andersson , Ulrik Jansson and Jozo Matovac , he played there in all six games against Paris Saint-Germain , Bayern Munich and Rosenborg BK , in the 1: 6 away defeat against the Norwegian champions he scored his first goal in the European premier class with the consolation goal. Despite a draw against the French and German clubs and a 2-0 win against Rosenborg after goals from Álvaro Santos and Jesper Jansson , he was eliminated with the Swedish club as the bottom of the group.

Also in the 2000 season Prica showed his goal danger and was one of the top ten goalscorers of the season with eleven goals this season, in which he and his club again made it into the European Cup as runner-up. As a result, he played himself in the notebook of the national coaching duo Tommy Söderberg and Lars Lagerbäck , who nominated the former U-21 player for the King's Cup in early 2001 . He made his international debut in the 4-1 opening win against Thailand when he was in the starting line-up and was replaced by Martin Åslund in the 66th minute . In the following game with a short stint as a substitute he contributed with two stakes to win the invitation tournament. In the following season he scored seven goals, but missed an international competition with the club as fifth.

After six more games in early 2002, Prica decided to change clubs. After a total of 147 games in which he had scored 50 goals, he left Sweden and went to Germany in the Bundesliga .

In Germany, Denmark and England

The North German Bundesliga club FC Hansa Rostock became Pricas' new employer . Shortly after his move, he celebrated in August in the first international game after the 2002 World Cup , in which the Swedish selection in the second round after golden goal on Senegal had failed, his comeback in the national team than this in Moscow 1: 1 draw by Russia severed . At Hansa Rostock, Prica ran alongside his compatriots Peter Wibrån , Andreas Jakobsson , Marcus Lantz , Joakim Persson and Magnus Arvidsson . On February 1, 2003, the Swedish sextet was in the starting line-up for the game against 1. FC Nürnberg - a record for the number of foreigners from one country in the Bundesliga. In the course of the season Prica also distinguished itself as the most successful goalscorer and led the club's internal goalscorer list with seven goals this season ahead of René Rydlewicz , Bachirou Salou and Marco Vorbeck . After the club had signed a new Strumspitze with Martin Max in the summer of 2003 , he lost his regular place after the start of the season. Mainly used as a substitute for Juri Schlünz , he scored three goals this season.

Also in the 2004/05 season, Prica, who formed the storm duo with Antonio Di Salvo for much of the season , fell short of expectations. After a weak start to the season, Jörg Berger took over as coach in November, but the team around Uwe Möhrle , Mathias Schober and Thomas Rasmussen remained in the relegation battle and ended the season second to last. Despite speculation about a club change after relegation, Hansa held the striker. He was also in a relegation battle with the team in the 2nd Bundesliga . Under coach Frank Pagelsdorf , who signed on shortly after the start of the season, he wavered between starting line-up and bench, but ultimately scored only four goals in 29 games. In March he announced his departure at the end of the season to return to Scandinavia and sign a three-year contract with Aalborg BK .

In the Danish Superliga Prica returned to scoring danger. After a brace in the 3-1 opening win against Viborg FF , he scored a total of five goals in the first four games, but then remained 14 games in a row without scoring. After his goal against AC Horsens on matchday 20, the knot was broken, and by the end of the season there were 19 goals this season in 32 appearances. He outstripped Morten Nordstrand and Morten Rasmussen and crowned himself the top scorer in the league. He was also successful at the beginning of the following season. With nine goals in 16 games, he kept the team led by his compatriot Erik Hamrén around Martin Pedersen , Mattias Lindström , Michael Jakobsen and Karim Zaza at the top of the league until December .

Due to his goal danger, Prica, who had thus earned a regular place in the national team in the course of 2007 and scored his first two international goals, brought himself into the focus of the European top leagues. Before the end of the winter transfer period in January 2008, Roy Keane piloted him for a £ 2 million transfer fee to Sunderland AFC in the Premier League . Although he scored on his debut against Birmingham City , in which he appeared as a substitute for Dwight Yorke in the second half, promptly his first goal in England. Against Michael Chopra and Kenwyne Jones , however, he could not prevail and did not get beyond the status of a supplementary player, so that he was not a single time in the starting lineup.

Success in Norway

On March 9, 2009, Prica, AFC Sunderland and the Norwegian record champions Rosenborg BK agreed to move the striker to Norway, who signed a four-year contract valid until the end of 2012. Back in Scandinavia, he continued his successful time in Denmark. On the first matchday of the 2009 season he was still a substitute, who made his debut as a substitute for Steffen Iversen in the Tippeligaen , he was a regular from the 2nd matchday and scored 17 goals of the season by the end of the season. He thus contributed to the fact that the club became Norwegian champions for the 21st time in the club's history after two years.

In the following season, 2010 , the attacker was no longer as accurate as in his first season in Trondheim; he scored 13 goals in 23 games. At the end of the season he defended the title from the previous season with the team. In the 2011 season Trondheim weak start, the first two games against lost Stabæk Fotball and Brann Bergen each with 1: 2, Prica remained two games in this goalless and met only on Matchday 3, but then four times against Lillestrom SK .

Change to Israel

On January 1, 2013, Prica's contract with Rosenborg was terminated. He was signed by Maccabi Tel Aviv . With Maccabi he was Israeli champion in 2013 and 2014. After the 2014/2015 season , Prica moved back to Sweden to end his career with his hometown club in Helsingborg . After a few months, however, it became known that he was going back to Israel. He signed a contract with Maccabi Petah Tikva , which he took up at the beginning of 2016.
