Tommy Bechmann (born December 22, 1981 in Aarhus ) is a former Danish football player .

Career

society

FC Aarhus and Esbjerg fB

Tommy Bechmann began his career in 2000 at Aarhus FC, now Aarhus Fremad . In 2002 he moved to the then first division club Esbjerg fB . There he became a regular player and aroused the interest of foreign clubs.

VfL Bochum

Bechmann joined the 2004/05 season for VfL Bochum , who at that time in the Bundesliga played. At that time, Søren Colding and Peter Madsen were two other Danes playing in Bochum. He made his debut for VfL on August 7, 2004 on the first day of the game against Hertha BSC when he was substituted on. He scored his first Bundesliga goal with a 1-0 win on September 19, 2004 against SC Freiburg. At the end of the season he had played 27 Bundesliga games and was relegated to the second division with VfL . He also played in the UEFA Cup against Standard Liège .

In the years to come, Bechmann shuttled between the starting eleven and substitutes' bench. Injuries also contributed to this. After the second division season 2005/06 he underwent knee surgery and was then used eleven times in the Bundesliga . The start of the 2007/08 season was initially successful when he scored four goals in the first four match days. In the second half of the season he injured himself again.

Sc freiburg

After the end of his contract at the end of the season, he moved to the then second division club SC Freiburg , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 2009 , to which he contributed seven goals. Bechmann scored his only Bundesliga goal for SCF on August 9, 2009 on the first day of the match against Hamburger SV with the goal to make it 1-1. In the following years he was often absent due to an injury, at the end of the season there were 21 games to book. In the 2010/11 season he was no longer used after the first round match in the DFB Cup due to some injuries. His contract ran until June 30, 2011.

SønderjyskE

For the 2011/12 season , Bechmann signed a contract with the Danish first division club SønderjyskE . He made his debut for the South Jutes on July 17, 2011 on the first day of the Superliga against FC Copenhagen (0-2) in the starting eleven. This season he came in the league game on 25 missions and scored five goals. In the 2012/13 season he was used 32 times in the league and scored eight goals. In the 2013/14 season he played 22 times and scored six goals, in the 2014/15 season he scored five goals in 25 league games. In the 2015/16 season, Bechmann qualified with SønderjyskE as runner-up for participation in the second qualifying round for the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League ; he was used in the games of the second and third qualifying rounds. In the play-offs, in which his team was eliminated by Sparta Prague , he did not play.

On December 9, 2016, the 21st matchday, Bechmann played his last game. He was in the starting line-up against FC Nordsjælland and was substituted for Mikael Uhre after half an hour . He ended his career in January 2017.

National team

On May 23, 2001, Bechmann made his only game for the Danish U-19 national team. He came on as a substitute for Mads Junker in a 2-1 defeat in Istanbul against Turkey . On January 20, 2002 he made his debut for the U-20 team when he came on as a substitute for Thomas Augustinussen in the 2-1 defeat in Johannesburg against Zimbabwe in the 70th minute . For this country selection he was used in seven games.

On August 20, 2002 he played for the first time for the Danish U-21 national team in a 1-1 draw against Scotland. In that game he scored the opening goal for the Danes. He was used for the U-21s in 15 games, scored eleven goals and also took part in qualifying for the U-21 European Championship , from which they were eliminated in the relegation against Italy . The second leg on November 19, 2003 in Rieti was also Bechmann's last game for the U-21s.

On January 18, 2004, Bechmann made his debut for the "national league team" at 1-1 in Carson against the USA . Three days later he scored his first goal for this selection with the consolation goal in a 3-1 defeat, also in Carson against the USA. His last game for the national league team, for which only players from the Superliga play and whose games are not counted as official games by the Danish Association, made Bechmann on January 23, 2004 against CD Águila in Los Angeles (1: 3).

In May 2006, Bechmann was nominated by coach Morten Olsen for two games of the Danish national team against Paraguay and France , but canceled due to injuries.

Bechmann is married and has three children. After retiring in January 2017, he planned to work as a commentator and television broadcast expert. In October 2017, Tommy Bechmann cracked the jackpot in the Danish lottery and won five million DKK (around 672,000 ).
