Marc Stephen Griffith Nygaard (born September 1, 1976 in Copenhagen ) is a former Danish football player.

Career in the club

Nygaard moved in 1994 from B.93 Copenhagen to FC Copenhagen , which had been newly founded two years earlier , where he only played for one year. He then left Denmark and moved to the Dutch honor division for SC Heerenveen . There he played 26 games in two years, where he scored six goals and reached the cup final with the club in 1997 .

In the summer of the year he moved further south to MVV Maastricht . He made the breakthrough in Limburg, but only scored three goals. He then left Maastricht and joined local rivals Roda JC Kerkrade . At the club from the city on the border with Germany he quickly became a regular player and made 86 games and 13 goals in his four years in Kerkrade. In 2002 he moved to Belgium on loan to SK Lommel , from where he returned in early 2003.

In the summer of the same year he left the Benelux region and moved to the Italian first division club Brescia Calcio . There Nygaard could not fight for a regular place and was awarded to Catania Calcio in January 2004 . After the loan expired in the summer, Brescia arranged another loan deal to Vicenza Calcio . In the winter of 2005 Nygaard dissolved his contract with Brescia Calcio and moved to the English second division side Queens Park Rangers , where he became a regular player.

Three years later, in January 2008, Nygaard returned to his Danish homeland and has since been hunting goals for Randers FC, where he also wore the captain's armband. In the summer of 2010, he refused a contract extension and left the East Jutes, which Nygaard was without a club from July 1.

In August 2010 he moved back abroad and joined the German third division club SpVgg Unterhaching . For SpVgg, Nygaard scored in his first appearance after two minutes against FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt . He made his last game for the Munich club on matchday 37 against SV Sandhausen (0-0). For the 2011/12 season he went back to the Netherlands, where he signed a two-year contract with Helmond Sport in the Eerste Divisie . Nygaard appeared in seven games for the club. Nygaard announced the end of his career on May 12, 2012.

In 2001 he qualified with the national team for the 2002 World Cup , but was not nominated for the Danish squad for the tournament in May 2002 . Nygaard last played for the national team in September 2008, when he was used in the World Cup qualifier against Hungary , which was his first appearance for the national team since 2002.
