Andreas Jakobsson (born October 6, 1972 in Lund , Sweden ) is a former Swedish football player .

career

After Jakobsson had played at Teckomatorps SK in his youth , he began his professional career at Landskrona BoIS in 1990 . After five seasons he moved to Helsingborgs IF in January 1995 at the start of the season , where he became one of the most respected defenders of the Allsvenskan . In 1999 he won the Swedish championship with the club.

In the summer of 2000 he left Sweden and moved to Germany to join the former Bundesliga club Hansa Rostock . In his first season he never missed a game and he even scored a goal against Bayern Munich . After a total of 99 Bundesliga games and four goals, he moved to the Danish first division club Brøndby IF in 2003 . At the beginning of the 2004/05 season he played a few more games for Brøndby IF and moved to England in August 2004 to join the Premier League club Southampton FC . Here, however, he only stayed one season, as the club was relegated from the top English league in 2005, and returned to his home country in 2005 to sign with his old club Helsingborgs IF. In 2006 he was able to celebrate victory in the Swedish Cup. After ending his professional career in February 2008 after his club's round of 32 against PSV Eindhoven (2-0 and 2-1) in the UEFA Cup, the defender played for Svalövs BK , an amateur club where he lived .

Jakobsson played 37 times for Sweden between 1996 and 2004 , scoring two goals. He participated in the 2002 World Cup and the 2004 European Championship . His breakthrough in the national team came during the 2002 World Cup, when he surprisingly replaced Patrik Andersson as central defender. In both tournaments he played all four games of the Swedish team. In August 2004, just two months after EURO 2004, he announced his retirement from the national team.

After his career, Jakobsson worked as a representative for artificial turf .
