Joakim Persson (born April 3, 1975 in Helsingborg ) is a Swedish football player .

Club career

Persson played for Högaborgs BK in his youth. In 1992 he joined Malmö FF . He made his debut for the first team in 1994 in a cup game against Landskrona BoIS .

In 1996 Persson went to Italy to Atalanta Bergamo . Here, however, he rarely played and after less than two seasons moved back to Sweden, to IFK Gothenburg. But even here he did not really gain a foothold.

In 2000 he left Sweden again and joined the Danish first division club Esbjerg fB . In the 1999/2000 season, relegation to the second division followed . In the following season, the direct rise succeeded.

In the summer of 2002 Persson moved to Germany in the 1st Bundesliga for FC Hansa Rostock . In addition to Andreas Jakobsson , Marcus Lantz , Peter Wibrån , Magnus Arvidsson and Rade Prica , he was the sixth Swede in the Mecklenburg squad. Under coach Armin Veh he played in defensive midfield and made 26 Bundesliga appearances in his first season for Hansa. He gave his premiere in the top German league on the first day of the game, in a 2-0 away win at TSV 1860 Munich . Persson was able to secure relegation with Hansa at the end of the season. After Hansa started the 2003/04 season with four defeats, Armin Veh resigned as coach and was replaced by Juri Schlünz . Schlünz pulled Persson from midfield into defense and appointed him defense chief. After the Swede came on only once late in the first six games of the season, he was on the field in 27 of the last 28 games. He scored his first and only goal for Hansa on matchday 11 in a 1-1 draw in Mönchengladbach . At the end of the season there was a ninth place in the table. In the 2004/05 season Persson even made 30 Bundesliga appearances. This time, however, he could not keep the class with the team and was relegated to the bottom of the table from the 1st Bundesliga. During his time at Rostock, Persson also played seven times in the DFB Cup . In three penalty shoot-outs, he scored twice and missed one penalty.

After relegation Persson left Rostock and moved to Norway to Tippeligaen Club Stabæk Fotball . Although he had a long-term contract in Stabæk, he returned to his home country in 2007. He moved to the Superettan , the second Swedish league, to Landskrona BoIS .

National team

The five-time junior selection player (one goal) played 27 games for the Swedish U-21 national team, scoring eight goals.

Persson ran three times for the senior national team . In 1997 he played in the King's Cup in Thailand against Romania , Japan and in the final against Thailand . He scored a goal in the final.
