Sven Andersson (born October 6, 1963 in Strömstad , Sweden ) is a former Swedish football player . He is now working as a goalkeeper coach.

career

Andersson played for IFK Strömstad in his youth . In 1980 the goalkeeper switched to Örgryte IS in Division 1 . With the club he made promotion to the Allsvenskan at the end of the season . In 1985 he was with the club Swedish champions when Örgryte IS was able to prevail after two a 4-2 win and a 2-3 defeat against IFK Göteborg in the championship finals.

In 1991 Andersson announced his retirement from professional football and returned to IFK Strömstad . After only one season, however, he was persuaded by the people in charge at Helsingborgs IF to make a comeback and was back in goal in the Allsvenskan from 1993. In 1998 he won the cup with the club, a year later he won the championship. In 2001 he finally ended his career after 233 top division games in a row. Ironically in his last game, the 431st appearance in the Allsvenskan, he was sent off with a red card . After the end of his career he became a goalkeeping coach at HIF.

Andersson once guarded the goal of the Swedish national team . As a substitute for Lars Eriksson and Thomas Ravelli , he was appointed as the third goalkeeper in the squad at the 1990 World Cup .
