from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There is a cottage at 77 Ardmanonie on the Scottish Hebridean island of South Uist . In 1980 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A.

description

The group consists of four buildings that were probably constructed in the 19th century. It is located in the north of the island of South Uist and is one of the few structures of a former settlement that still exist today. The one-story cottage is similar to comparable houses on the Isle of Skye , but is relatively longer. The entrance door is in the middle of the east-facing front. The masonry consists of quarry stone , with the building edges being rounded. Chimneys tower at both ends. The building closes with a thatched roof that is secured with nets and stones.

To the north of the cottage is a barn; a stable to the west. Both buildings are made of quarry stone , are entered from the east and also close with thatched roofs. Another building in the west has a corrugated sheet metal roof and was erected after 1878.
