77 Records was a British record label specializing in folk , blues and jazz recordings.
history
The label was founded in 1957 by Doug Dobell, who also ran the then famous London Dobell's Jazz Record Shop at 77 Charing Cross. The name of the label goes back to this, in which the street number of the shop - 77 Charing Cross, London - was used.
The label ceased operations in the late 1970s, followed by the closure of the record store in 1992.
Musician
Various musicians released various records on 77 Records, for example the British jazz musicians Acker Bilk , Bruce Turner , Tuppy Hayes, Les Condon , Dick Morrissey , and Buck Clayton in the 1960s .
There are also various American musicians who, on the one hand, made recordings directly with 77 Records and, on the other hand, artists whose tape recordings were taken over by labels from the United States. These include, for example, Ramblin 'Jack Elliott , Alexis Korner , Lightnin' Hopkins , Scrapper Blackwell , Reverend Gary Davis , Robert Pete Williams , Big Joe Williams , Sunnyland Slim , Little Brother Montgomery , Yank Rachell and Sleepy John Estes .
