A commercial building is located at 84-94 St Vincent Street in the Scottish city of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in monument category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1988.

description

The building is located between St Vincent Street and St Mary's Lane in the center of Glasgow. It was built between 1908 and 1909 to a design by Scottish architect John Archibald Campbell . Campbell died before the work was finished, so it is considered Campbell's last building. The building was built for the Northern Assurance Company , but also housed the Imperial Union Club . Parts were rented out as office buildings.

The seven- to eight-storey commercial building is designed in a classical style, but already takes up elements of early modernism . Its seven-axis-wide facade is made of Portland stone . The central axis with its column-flanked entrance is richly ornamented. The stylized architraves of the windows above are ornamented. Like the outer axes, the central axis is worked as an edged bay from the first floor. The top window on the sixth floor is designed in the style of an aedicula with a segmented gable. The cornice mounted on consoles runs above it . The outer axes break through the cornice and form an eighth floor.
