Aída Bonnelly de Díaz

Aída Bonnelly de Díaz (born May 2, 1926 in Santiago de los Caballeros ) is a Dominican musicologist, critic and pedagogue.

Bonnelly attended Manuela Jiménez's piano class until 1945 and studied at the Juilliard School of Music until 1949 . In 1955 she took courses from Harry Cox in Paris, between 1962 and 1967 in New York in postgraduate courses at the Catholic University of America and piano courses from Emerson Meyers .

On her return to the Dominican Republic, she gave private lessons and taught at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de Santo Domingo , where she headed the piano department from 1955 to 1961. Until 1971 she worked as a music critic for the Listín Diario and other magazines. In 1978 she became co-director of the Teatro Nacional , and between 1980 and 1983 she was its artistic director. In 1979 she became head of the music section of the Bibliotéca Nacional .

For her music-critical and musicological publications (including En torno a la música ) she received the Premio Anual de Didáctica of the State Education Secretariat in 1978 . In 1983 she was awarded the Knight of the Order of Andrés Bello , and in 1997 he was awarded the Premio Artes y Letras .
