Aşk-ı Memnu (German: Verbotene Liebe ) is a Turkish series that was broadcast from September 4, 2008 to June 24, 2010 on the private broadcaster Kanal D. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil . In 2008, Aşk-ı Memnu was one of the most popular series. In the final episode, it achieved an audience rating of around 70%.

In the TV series, the young and beautiful Bihter ( Beren Saat ) married the wealthy Adnan (Selcuk Yöntem). She cheats on him with his nephew Behlül ( Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ ).

Since Adnan's beloved wife died, he has lived in a large villa in Istanbul with his two children Nihal and Bülent, his nephew Behlül and the housekeeping staff. Adnan has not appeared in public since then. Firdevs is also widowed and lives with her two daughters Peyker and Bihter. Her husband Melih left her a huge mountain of debt, but Firdevs cannot do without her luxurious needs. She therefore strives to marry the wealthy Adnan.

After the death of his wife, Adnan first appeared in public again at the wedding of Peyker and Nihat. His nephew Behlül, who previously had a relationship with Peyker, accompanies him. Bihter is targeting Adnan too. Against her mother's wishes, she wants to marry him. Bihter sees her mother primarily responsible for the death of her beloved father, who died of a heart attack after he caught his wife Firdevs cheating.

Adnan is impressed by Bihter's beauty and wants to marry her. Especially Nihal, Adnan's daughter, is against the wedding. The nanny Mademoiselle de Courton is also against the wedding, but does not show it openly because she is in love with Adnan. Eventually Adnan and Bihter get married. Over time the residents get used to Bihter and even Nihal accepts them. After an accident, Firdevs moves into the villa for a while.

Behlül, Adnan's nephew, and Bihter are getting closer and closer. Adnan had taken Behlül in with him years ago because Behlül's parents were fatally injured in a car accident. Since then he has treated him like his own son. After a while, Behlül falls in love with Bihter. Bihter also seems to have a feeling for Behlül. When Bihter went to Adnan's studio one evening to choose a picture, Behlül followed her. He kisses her, whereupon Bihter slaps him on the face. Plagued by guilt, Behlül decides to marry his girlfriend Elif, and the two become engaged. After Bihter and Behlül went out to eat together, she kisses him and the affair begins.

Bihter's mother suspects that Bihter and Behlül have a relationship. She then persuades Nihal that Behlül is in love with her. Nihal, who had been in love with Behlül for years anyway, likes this thought. Firdev's intention is to save Bihter's marriage. But the closer Nihal and Behlül get, the more jealous Bihter becomes. One night Bihter and Behlül meet in the garden shed and spend the night together. Beşir, the family's chauffeur, catches them doing it. Beşir, who is in love with Nihal, decides not to say anything to Adnan unless Behlül makes Nihal happy.

Behlül and Nihal become engaged, but he still meets with Bihter. Mademoiselle also suspects something of the affair. The more people get wind of the affair, the more dangerous it becomes for Behlül and Bihter, so Behlül decides to close the deal with Bihter and marry Nihal. Bihter has suggested to Behlül several times to run away, but Behlül pinches. On the day of the wedding, Behlül meets with Bihter one last time to make it clear to her that the matter is over. Then she tells her mother to leave the house quickly because everything will be broken today. The mother sends Behlül a text message and tells him about it. Behlül wants to prevent it and rushes to Bihter as quickly as possible. Beşir, who is seriously ill, at Mademoiselle's urging, decides to tell Adnan about the relationship between his wife and his nephew. Adnan runs into the house, angrily opens the door of his bedroom and sees Bihter and Behlül together. Behlül looks down in shame while Adnan tells him that Behlül was a son to him. Bihter has his back to Adnan, so he doesn't see her holding a gun to her chest. Bihter shoots himself in the heart with the pistol. Nihal collapses as she runs up the stairs as soon as she hears the shot. Beşir dies of lung disease, Behlül is thrown out, and Firdevs is paralyzed by a stroke. The family moves out of the house and starts a new life.

Nebahat Çehre Firdevs Yöreoğlu Firdevs is the wife of Melih Yöreoğlu and the mother of Peyker and Bihter. She cannot do without her luxurious needs.
Selçuk Yöntem Adnan Ziyagil Adnan Ziyagil is considered one of the wealthiest men in Istanbul. He has lost his wife and lives with his two children Nihal and Bülent, his nephew Behlül and the domestic servants. Later he marries the much younger Bihter.
Zerrin Tekindor Deniz DeCourton (Mademoiselle / Matmazel) Mademoiselle is Nihal and Bülent Ziyagil's nanny. Her mother is Turkish, her father is French. She is in love with Adnan.
Hazal Kaya Nihal Ziyagil Nihal is the daughter of Adnan Ziyagil. At first she is very jealous of her young stepmother Bihter. Nihal is secretly in love with Behlül; both get engaged in the course of the series.
Batuhan Karacakaya Bulent Ziyagil Bülent is Adnan's younger son. He sees Behlül as an idol.
Eda Özerkan Elif Bender Elif is a model. Elif was engaged to Behlül for a time.
