The A-Division was the top division in Bhutanese football until 2012. There were seven teams in the league and Yedzin FC won their second championship after 2008 in the past season . The record champion since a Bhutanese championship was held in 1986 is Druk Pol FC with eight titles. The record champions of the A-Division, which has existed since 2001, is Transport United with four titles. In 2012 the league was dissolved and replaced by the Bhutan National League .
history
After football came to Bhutan in the 1950s, it always had to subordinate itself to the national sport, archery , and only played a minor role. But when the first association was founded in the 1960s, football attracted more and more attention and gained more popularity. In the 1980s there was a first flowering phase. The first international match against Nepal took place in April 1982 and the first official championship was held in 1986. The Royal Bhutan Army, today's association Druk Pol, from the capital Thimphu won the first championship. After that there was initially no more officially held championship. In 1993, the Bhutan Football Federation finally joined the Asian Confederation AFC and a national league limited to the Thimphu area was founded and started playing in 1996. Since 2001, the league, which is particularly struggling with the country's weak infrastructure, has been called the A-Division. The national champion has also been taking part in the AFC President's Cup since 2005 , where Transport United even won against Pakistan Army FC in 2006 .
