Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An Advanced - Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) is a control system that helps control and steer traffic on the ground of an airfield . It combines different monitoring systems, e.g. B. Ground radar and multilateration system (angle and distance measurement). In this way, a complete and correct picture of the taxiing traffic of aircraft at an airfield can be displayed. The system is intended to help actively avoid incidents.

A-SMGCS provides taxiway guidance and monitoring for aircraft as well as the monitoring of appropriately equipped ground vehicles, thus ensuring a smooth flow of traffic on the ground. The system makes a major contribution to safety under all weather conditions and within the operationally used airfield area.
