Jon Bosak (born May 17, 1947 ) is an American computer scientist . He led the development of the XML standard at the W3C .

Jon Bosak

Tim Bray , one of the editors of the XML specification, wrote of Bosak's role: "Without the efforts of Jon Bosak, XML most likely would not have seen the light of day. It was during his work on the online documentation for Novell that he began its power and flexibility to appreciate SGML and he had become convinced that HTML was not the right platform for the web infrastructure to come. Bosak's responsibility for the XML process is characterized by a combination of clever political maneuvers and a firm insistence on the principle of things to do on the basis of principles, not expediency. "

After he resigned his position as chairman of the W3C XML Coordination Group on February 10, 2000, he received his own identifier, "xml: Father" , in recognition of his services in the XML namespace .

In appreciation for his vision, leadership and dedication the W3C XML Plenary on this 10th day of February, 2000 reserves for Jon Bosak in perpetuity the XML name "xml: Father".

Bosak was also instrumental in specifying the Universal Business Language .
