The AB3ü Bay 94 was a three-axle through car with a side aisle of the 1st and 2nd class, the sheet no. 069 was built for the Royal Bavarian State Railways (K.Bay.Sts.B.) for use in express train services.

history

For use in high-speed trains (express and D trains), a regulation was issued in 1891 that stipulated that the use of two-axle wagons was no longer permitted for use in such trains. For example, through cars and baggage cars were procured for use together with the then new three-axle compartment cars.

procurement

With the sheet no. 069 the Royal Bavarian State Railways (K.Bay.Sts.B.) commissioned the companies Rathgeber (Munich) and MAN (Nuremberg) with the delivery of a total of 16 cars of the type AB3ü with closed crossings. For the transition to neighboring railways in Austria, Switzerland and Italy, the cars received appropriate brakes and signal holders.

With the conversion in 1933, the bellows were removed, the class allocation changed and the cars were redrawn to BC3i Bay 94/33 .

Whereabouts

The 12971 Mü, 12977 Mü, 12983 Mü and 12984 Mü wagons were parked as damaged wagons in 1945 and were taken out of service by 1951.

comment

After removing the bellows, there were only transfers of personnel. The 1st class compartments were converted to 2nd class while the seat layout was changed at the same time. The previous 2nd class compartments were equipped with wooden benches and redesigned as 3rd class compartments. A total of six cars were converted to BC3i Bay 94/33 (12971 Mü, 12973 Mü, 12977 Mü, 12982 Mü, 12983 Mü, 12984 Mü).

Constructive features

Underframe

The frame of the car was made entirely of iron and was riveted together from rolled sections. The outer side rails were U-shaped with outward-facing flanges. As a towing device, the wagons had screw couplings with safety hooks according to VDEV, the drawbar was spring-loaded throughout. The wagons were equipped with rod buffers with an installation length of 650 mm, the buffer plates had a diameter of 370 mm.

drive

The wagons had riveted half-timbered axle brackets made of flat iron with the short, straight design. The axles were stored in sliding axle bearings. The wheels had spoked wheel bodies, the middle wheel could be moved sideways. Both type A 4 and type V steering axles were installed .

Brake: Handbrake in the closed transition at one end of the car. For the transfer capability to other tracks all cars were both Westinghouse - as well as with Hardy-braking systems (. Eg for Austria z) equipped. In addition, they also received Rayl signal systems as an intercommunication signal .

Car body

The car body framework consisted of a wooden frame work. It was clad with sheet metal on the outside and wood on the inside. The side walls were straight and reached the top of the outer side rails. The wagons had a flat arched roof with a skylight structure . The entry areas had moved in.

The interior had a total of four and ½ compartments with upholstered bench seats, which were closed off with sliding doors from the side corridor. Half of the 1st class compartment had 2 seats and the full compartment had 4 seats. The 2nd class compartments each had 6 seats. The row of the compartments was seen from the braker's side: I, I, II, II, II. The car had 1 toilet , which was located at the end of the car opposite the braker's side. The 1st class seats could be converted into sleeping camps.

Furnishing

The wagons were heated by steam . The ventilation took place via flaps in the area of the skylight structure or via the retractable windows. The lighting was done by gas lamps . The two storage containers, each with a volume of 910 liters, hung on the frame in the longitudinal direction of the car. With the renovation in 1933, the cars received electrical lighting.
