The ABV-room theater is the oldest amateur theater in Stuttgart . It has existed since 1921 and is a department of the Allgemeine Bildungsverein 1863 Stuttgart (ABV). The room theater can be found in the building of the former state parliament, in the Eduard Pfeiffer house in the Heusteigviertel .

The history of the ABV room theater in Stuttgart began in 1921 with the establishment of the ABV's Dramatic Department .

For decades, the ABV theater group played in the Great Hall of the Eduard Pfeiffer House, named after the social reformer Eduard Pfeiffer .

The house survived the air raids on Stuttgart during World War II. As a result of the destruction of the seat of the former Württemberg Landtag , the Great Hall of the Eduard Pfeiffer House served the Landtag as a provisional plenary hall from 1947 to 1961, initially for the Landtag of Württemberg-Baden and from 1952 the Landtag of Baden-Württemberg . Here the first state constitution was passed and the state of Baden-Württemberg was founded.

As a result, the theater department of the ABV initially had no performance venue until it built a new, small performance venue in the basement in 1957 - today's ABV room theater. The first places are right on the stage. There is space for 50 guests.

Pieces of all genres from crime to drama to comedies are played. The season starts in September and runs until June. Three new in-house productions are presented each season, and the program is expanded to include guest performances.
