AFS Convention
The International Convention of 2001 harmful on the restriction of the use anti-fouling systems on ships ( english International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-fouling Systems on Ships, 2001, AFS Convention ) is an international convention of the IMO and prohibits the use of TBT -containing underwater paintings. The AFS Convention has been in force since September 17, 2008.
All ships with a gross tonnage of 400 and more that are used in international voyages must have a TBT-free underwater paint.
Violations of the AFS convention are punished as administrative offenses in Germany by the marine environmental behavior regulation.
