AGERPRES
The Agenția Națională de Presă for short AGERPRES ( Roman . Pronunciation ˈad͡ʒerpres ) is a Romanian news agency . It was founded in 1889, making it the country's oldest news agency and the largest Romanian photo archive. She is a member of EANA and has correspondents across the country and in major European cities.
history
The agency was founded on March 27, 1889 under the name of Agenția Telegrafică a României on the initiative of the Foreign Minister Petru Carp . It worked successfully until it had to stop its service at the end of 1916 when the Germans took Bucharest in World War I and the Palatul Poștelor had to be evacuated. It then resumed its work and in 1921 was the basis of Orient Radio RADOR , a news agency in the modern sense. After a parliamentary decision , it was called RADOR - Agenție de informații telegrafice from 1926 .
Due to a communist decree, the agency became Agerpres in 1949 . Shortly after the Romanian Revolution in December 1989 , it was converted into the Agenția Națională de Presă ROMPRES in January 1990 , which, however, remained under state authority. After a change in the law in 2003, Rompres became an autonomous public institution, under the control of Parliament. In 2008 the name was changed back to Agerpres .
