AGICOA ( A ssociation de G estion I nternationale C ollective des O euvres A udiovisuelles) is an association for the international collective perception of audiovisual works. The association was founded in 1981 as an international non-governmental organization and is based in Geneva , Switzerland. The members of the association are several national partner organizations in individual countries.

The German partner organization that exercises the rights of use for Germany is 'AGICOA Copyright Protection GmbH' based in Munich. The society is one of twelve copyright collecting societies in Germany. Other well-known collecting societies in Germany are for example GEMA , VG Wort , GWFF , VG Bild-Kunst etc.

The company exercises the copyrights of the producers in audiovisual works; especially in the field of cable retransmission of TV programs in cable networks and similar methods of retransmission. The royalties collected by AGICOA are distributed to the producers of the works or their rights holders. As soon as an audiovisual work is broadcast in cable networks or in some other way, the operator of the cable company has to pay a fee to the respective national partner organization of AGICOA. The distribution of the royalties collected by AGICOA is based on the evaluation of the data on the broadcasting of the works by the television stations in the respective countries.

In 2012, 140 million euros were distributed to the rights holders. The rights holders who receive royalties from AGICOA are producer associations from all over the world. In 2012, AGICOA represented 12,944 rights holders from 38 countries with a total of 1,223,000 audiovisual works.

The activities of AGICOA Copyright Protection GmbH are subject to the Collecting Societies Act . The supervisory authority of the collecting society is the German Patent and Trademark Office in Munich.
