AIS-SART

An AIS SART ( A utomatic I dentification S ystem - S earch A nd R Escue T ransmitter , English for, automatic identification system - search and rescue transmitter ') is a device that based on the protocol of the Automatic Identification Systems a (AIS) sends position-related emergency message. The position and time synchronization of the AIS-SART takes place via a built-in GPS module.

The position of the lifeboat in distress or a person with an AIS-SART in the life jacket is forwarded via the AIS receiver or AIS transmitter / receiver to the PC or to the chart plotter as a serial protocol and then to the plotter or PC visible. Thus, an immediate rescue operation can be initiated by every ship that has AIS on board , which increases the chances of survival enormously.

All commercial ships worldwide are equipped with AIS, in Central Europe also all government watercraft and SAR units. In recent years, the level of equipment in recreational craft with AIS has increased significantly and the latest estimates by experts are around 15%.

The AIS-SART receives its position and time synchronization from a built-in GPS receiver. The position is transmitted per minute in a series of eight identical position reports (four on 161.975 MHz and four on 162.025 MHz). This increases the possibility that at least one message will be sent out at the highest point of the ocean wave.
