ALBA (synchrotron)
The ALBA synchrotron is a Spanish synchrotron radiation source of the third generation in Cerdanyola del Vallès approx. 17 km north of Barcelona . ALBA is operated by the CELLS consortium ( Consorcio para la Construcción, Equipamiento y Explotación del Laboratorio de Luz de Sincrotrón ) and financed equally by the Spanish and Catalan governments. The circumference of the electron storage ring is 268.8 m and the nominal energy of the electrons is 3 GeV . At present (as of December 2016) eight beamlines can be used to deal with questions mainly from the fields of biology , solid state physics and materials science . Two further beamlines are also in the planning and construction phase.
