AMPO: Japan-Asia Quarterly Review was an English-language magazine that published on topics related to Japanese society , social justice , minorities, and environmental protection related to Japan and East Asia . The attitude was clearly socially critical and, by Japanese standards, radical left. It was one of the few organs that questioned the Japanese social order.
It was published quarterly from 1969 to 2000 (up to No. 113). It was established as an organ of marriage ( ベ 平 連 ). The original title - up to No. 18 - was Ampo: a report on the Japanese people's movement .
It has been published by the Pacific Asia Resource Center (PARC) since 1974 . This center is committed to “international social and economic justice”. The name is derived from the Japanese-American alliance treaty , the conclusion of which in 1952 and extension in 1960 led to a radicalization of the Japanese opposition.
