AMX-32 is the type designation for a French main battle tank , which is essentially a further development of the AMX-30 main battle tank .
description
Development work on the AMX-32 began in 1972. The model was the AMX-30 tank, which the AMX-32 looks very similar to the outside. The first prototype was completed in 1982 and has been extensively tested. The main difference was the thicker armor and the improved fire control system of the AMX-32. A disadvantage compared to the AMX-30 was the significantly higher weight and the comparatively weak motorization. The AMX-32 was primarily intended for export. A series production did not take place due to a lack of interested buyers - the tank did not get beyond the prototype stage.
technology
The AMX-32 could be armed with either a non-stabilized 105 mm cannon (as with the AMX-30) or a 120 mm cannon - both in standard NATO caliber. A 7.62 mm machine gun and a 20 mm automatic cannon were available as secondary armament.
Two engines were provided for the motorization of the tank. These were a multi-fuel Hispano-Suiza HS-110 engine, which was already used in the AMX-30, and a more powerful HS-110-S2 diesel engine, which developed 780 hp and was the more powerful of the two engines. The chassis remained the same as that of the AMX-30 with a few minor changes.
