AN / ALQ-184
The AN / ALQ-184 is an airborne system for electronic countermeasures at medium range. It is used by the US Corporation Raytheon produces.
description
The ALQ-184 is designed to neutralize all types of radar-based threats. Several traveling wave tubes are used to amplify the signal. The interfering signals are then precisely aimed at the target using two directional antennas, among other things , which significantly increases efficiency, especially when the principle of random noise is used. The system can also record and combat multiple radar stations in parallel.
The ALQ-184 is housed in an external container and can therefore be easily attached to a suitable weapon station under the wings of the carrier aircraft. It can be used in a 2- or 3-band configuration, the latter specializing in interfering with low-frequency radars. Therefore, the container in this design is longer and heavier. Raytheon has now released an extensive upgrade with the AN / ALQ-184 (V) 9. In this variant, the container was also equipped with an AN / ALE-50 tow bait, which is intended to lure enemy guided weapons away from the carrier aircraft. The current version is the AN / ALQ-184 (V) 11.
In the meantime, over 950 systems have been manufactured and delivered. In addition to the US Air Force , customers also include the Air Force of the Republic of China (Taiwan) . The system was also used in the Second Gulf War and was characterized by its high level of effectiveness and low downtime.
