AN / APX-111

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The AN / APX-111 is a friend-foe detection (IFF) system that is used on the F / A-18 Hornet . It is produced by BAE Systems .

description

Since IFF requests have to be received and answered from all directions, there are a total of five antennas on the airframe of the F / A-18, which cover the entire airspace. In addition to receiving and answering inquiries, the system can also send such inquiries itself via an antenna on the front of the machine. In order to protect the requests from eavesdropping and jamming attempts by the enemy, they are encrypted in various ways. With the APX-111, this task is carried out by a computer named KIV-6 / TSEC.
