APT-RPM is a port of the Advanced Packaging Tool (APT), which has been modified to work with the RPM Package Manager (RPM). It was originally ported to RPM by Alfredo Kojima, but later improved and further developed by Gustavo Niemeyer. Both worked at Conectiva Linux at the same time .

In March 2005 Gustavo Niemeyer announced that he would no longer be involved in developing the program and would instead concentrate more on the planned successor to APT-RPM, the Smart Package Manager .

A year later, the development of Panu Matilainen was started, who wants to introduce multilib functionality and support for the usual repository metadata .

APT-RPM is used, for example, in the Linux distribution PCLinuxOS .
