Albert Moritz Wolff
Albert Moritz Wolff (born June 15, 1854 in Berlin , † August 23, 1923 in Lüneburg ) was a German sculptor and medalist , he used the signature A. M. Wolff .
Albert Moritz Wolff should not be confused with the older sculptor Albert Wolff (1815–1892), to whom he was not related.
Life
Little is known about Wolff's life so far. It can be assumed that he was trained as a drawing teacher, as the activity in this profession can be proven. The first known sculptural work is a relief dated 1879 on the Reinhold tomb in Hamburg. As a student at the Berlin Art Academy , he exhibited for the first time at the academy exhibition in 1881, namely the bust of the preacher Nessler. Sculpture was probably a sideline for him at this time; in 1885 he was still working full-time as a drawing teacher at the French Gymnasium in Berlin . Some of his grave figures, grave reliefs, small sculptures and medals have been sold in large numbers as so-called catalog goods by various companies (Gladenbeck in Berlin, WMF in Geislingen, Gebr. Lindt NFL in Berlin, Werner & Sons mint in Berlin) for decades . Some of the bronzes auctioned at various art auctions show typically Russian motifs and are signed in Cyrillic , which suggests that Wolff also supplied the Russian market.
Services
Wolff's artistic achievements are less in the area of monument sculpture than in the area of genre-like small sculptures and commemorative medals. The latter he made mainly for the Berlin mint Werner & Sons.
Works
Some of the following small sculptures have been auctioned off in recent years. (see also on artnet.com artnet.de with images)
