ASIC (programming language)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ASIC is a BASIC dialect for MS-DOS . It was written by Dave Visti in 1990 and distributed as shareware .

ASIC only masters a small part of the BASIC programming language. The parser in particular is very rudimentary; that is, no compound expressions are translated. Functions are also not supported. This explains the headline “ASIC: It's almost BASIC” (German: “ASIC: Es ist almost BASIC”). ASIC creates very compact COM and EXE files; it could therefore be seen as a kind of “ assembler with variables”. ASIC also has a simple integrated development environment . With the last version, 5.00, there was some compatibility with GW-BASIC in the form of a program for translating GW-BASIC to ASIC. In the 1990s this BASIC dialect gained some distribution via internet forums .
