The ASPO ( A ssociation for the S tudy of P eak O il and Gas ) is a global network of scientists, economists, politicians and journalists, the public awareness of the assumed global oil peak ( peak oil makes) and natural gas attention. Furthermore, the point in time and the decrease in the production rates are examined, information is provided about the possible effects and possible solutions are discussed.

Positions

The ASPO dates the global maximum of new oil deposits to the year 1964 (Peak Discovery), followed by the global maximum oil production of conventional crude oil in 2005 (Peak Production). Since then, it has been possible to increase oil production from unconventional sources such as the polar regions, the deep sea , tar sands or dense rocks, but according to the analysis by ASPO, this is not enough to compensate for the long-term loss of exhausting conventional oil deposits .

History and club structure

The ASPO was founded in 2002 by the British petroleum geologist Colin J. Campbell . This initiative was the inspiration behind the founding of ASPO Germany and ASPO Switzerland in 2006 (dissolved at the end of 2018).

The president of ASPO International is the Swedish physics professor Kjell Aleklett. The chairman of ASPO Germany is the engineer Jörn Schwarz. The chairman of ASPO Switzerland is the geologist Walter Stocker.
