ATI Radeon Xpress

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As IGP / G refers to AMD integrated graphics units ( Integrated Graphics Processor ) on its own chipsets . ATI Technologies has already sold its CrossfireX-capable solutions under the name Radeon Xpress .

Graphics processors integrated directly on the motherboard (so-called "onboard" or "shared memory" solutions) mean that no additional graphics card is required, which enables more cost-effective PC systems and reduces power consumption. The graphics memory requirement is covered by the main memory. With such graphics solutions, the performance of conventional plug-in graphics cards cannot be achieved by a long way, since the main memory works considerably more slowly than the memory directly accommodated on the graphics card. At the same time, the overall performance of the system is impaired, since the main memory is also used by the graphics chip. For applications that are not purely graphics-intensive, so-called professional office or industrial productivity solutions such as office packages or SAP clients, the graphics performance is still sufficient; PCs equipped in this way then have the advantage of lower power consumption with reduced noise, and a slot remains free for other purposes or the housing can be correspondingly more compact and leave more space on the desk.

The following models have been released:

Desktop:

  • Radeon Xpress 200
  • Radeon Xpress 1100
  • Radeon Xpress 1150
  • Radeon Xpress 1200
  • Radeon Xpress 1250
  • Radeon Xpress 3200

The Radeon Xpress 3200 is not a chipset with an integrated graphics processor, but is also known as the RD580 Crossfire Xpress chipset.

The other Xpress versions mentioned here also do not have an integrated graphics processor, but are designed for use with ATI cards and AMD processors. Only the chipsets:

  • Radeon 9100 IGP
  • Radeon 9100 IGP PRO
  • Radeon IGP 340
  • Radeon IGP 320

are with integrated graphics processor and the newer G chipsets, such as. B. 785G.

Notebook:

  • Radeon Xpress 200M

The first integrated graphics units from ATI Technologies were brought onto the market with the suffix " IGP " instead of "Xpress":

Desktop:

  • Radeon 9100 IGP
  • Radeon 9100 IGP PRO
  • Radeon IGP 340
  • Radeon IGP 320

Notebook:

  • Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP
  • Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP
  • Mobility Radeon 9100 IGP
  • Radeon IGP 340M
  • Radeon IGP 320M

Also integrated on the motherboard, but not to be confused with the above-mentioned concept. B. the relatively old Rage chips, which have their own small memory and thus behave like real graphics cards. Such solutions are typically found on special mainboards for servers and office PCs.

Graphics processors on graphics cards are sold under the name ATI Radeon .
