AUCT E X

AUCT E X is an extension for the editors GNU Emacs and (up to and including version 11.92) XEmacs . It offers an integrated development environment for TeX , LaTeX , Texinfo and ConTeXt , which supplements these editors with many important functions that are not included in the standard TeX mode. This makes writing scientific papers much easier.

TeX compilers and additional programs such as BibTeX , PDF and DVI viewers can be started directly from AUCTeX.

AUCTeX contains preview-latex , which uses PostScript to generate previews for tables, formulas and images and to display them directly in the editor. To do this, it uses TeX and various tools to generate the preview images and the corresponding literature and cross-references.

Together with the reftex-mode , which is part of Emacs, cross-references (including to bibliographies) can be edited particularly easily.

AUCTeX is free software under the GNU General Public License and is supposed to replace the standard TeX mode in Emacs.
