AVRCP

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile) is a Bluetooth profile for remote control of audio or video devices.

There are two different roles within this Bluetooth profile - one device takes on the role of controlling and the other device takes on the role of controlled. The role of the controlling person is designated with the abbreviation AVRCP-CT (controller), that of the controlled person with AVRCP-TG (target).

  • Controlling ( AVRCP-CT: Audio Video Remote Control Profile Controller)
  • Controlled ( AVRCP-TG: Audio Video Remote Control Profile Target)

The CT sends commands to the TG, which executes them.

A CT can be, for example, a Bluetooth stereo headset with control buttons that, as a TG, controls an MP3 player. In this context, the A2DP protocol is often used jointly in order to be able to simultaneously transmit audio information from the source to the headphones.

Apple Macintosh computers running Mac OS X Leopard can use AVRCP. From version 4.1 iOS devices also support AVRCP. Android supports AVRCP 1.3 from version 4.3 (API level 18). With version 8.0 (API level 26) support for AVRCP 1.4 was added.
