The AWE 1500RS was a sports car that was built in the 1950s by the Thuringian automotive company VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach (AWE) and used by its racing team.

At the beginning of the 1950s, a collective of motor vehicle masters began building racing vehicles in Berlin so that they could take part in sports car races. Racing cars under the name EMW were launched in the GDR for the first time in 1951 . In 1952, the location of the GDR racing collective was relocated to Eisenach to the Eisenach engine works located there and the company was renamed the Eisenach automobile works in 1953.

In 1955 the most successful racing car of the GDR of the 1950s was developed and used in international races. The 1500RS had a 6 cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts, dual ignition and three Weber twin carburetors. The 1.5-liter engine developed 99 kW (135 hp) at 7000 rpm. Edgar Barth and Paul Thiel celebrated a double victory at the 1955 Eifel race at the Nürburgring with their 1500RS. In 1956, Barth / Rosenhammer won the class up to 2 liters with a factory 1500RS at the 1000 kilometers from Paris in Montlhéry . At the end of 1956, the AWE ended its racing activities.
