A certain ratio

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Certain Ratio is a British band from Manchester formed in 1977.

history

A Certain Ratio comes from the environment of the independent label " Factory Records " (known from Joy Division , New Order etc.). On their first releases, they sound like a follow-up band to Joy Division. After a trip to New York in 1980, they quickly developed into funk . The album "To Each" (1981) is characterized by African percussion, funky drums and bass as well as a grave mood in the style of the Joy Division. After the release of the album "Sextet", which continued the sound of the successful album, singer Simon Topping left the band. This then turned to the uncompromising jazz-funk sound. Over the years, they got closer and closer to the catchy pop sound with funk elements.
