A ginjinha
A Ginjinha (also Ginjinha Espinheira ) is a bar in the center of the Portuguese capital Lisbon .
history
The bar was opened in 1840 on the south side of Largo de São Domingos by Francisco Espinheira from Galicia . A brother from the Igreja de Santo António had shown him how to ferment sour cherries. He added sugar, water and cinnamon to create the ginja liqueur . This soon became a traditional Lisbon drink. Today the bar is run by the fifth generation. Attached is a ginja production that exports to the United States, among other places.
Ornate painted glass panels, verses and historical posters adorn the entrance to the bar.
