history

The bar was opened in 1840 on the south side of Largo de São Domingos by Francisco Espinheira from Galicia . A brother from the Igreja de Santo António had shown him how to ferment sour cherries. He added sugar, water and cinnamon to create the ginja liqueur . This soon became a traditional Lisbon drink. Today the bar is run by the fifth generation.
