Ginjinha or Ginja is a Portuguese liqueur with 17–20% alcohol that is made from sour cherries . It took two months of maceration for it to take on its desired color and characteristic taste. Ginjinha is served in shot glasses, optionally with or without the pickled cherries. The cherry pits are traditionally spit on the floor after consumption.

Ginjinha has its origins in Lisbon , more precisely in the barA Ginjinha ” on Largo de São Domingos . This standing bar has only served ginjinha for 150 years, which is very popular with tourists and residents of Lisbon.

Ginjinha portuguesa is one of the liqueurs with a designation of origin protected in the EC .
