A Londonderry Air is a popular Irish tune that is used as the unofficial national anthem at some events in Northern Ireland . With many lyrics to it, it became best known with the text by Frederic Weatherly as " Danny Boy ".

The origin and age of the melody are unclear. The earliest recorded mention comes from a transcription by an Irish woman from County Londonderry in what is now Northern Ireland , from 1855, from which the name is derived.
