A man from the future

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Man from the Future is a 45-minute piece of music with which Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe and their electro-pop duo Pet Shop Boys set a monument to the mathematician , computer pioneer and code breaker Alan Turing 60 years after his death. The musical obituary was written for narrators , choirs , large orchestras and electronic music . The Dresden composer Sven Helbig contributed to the implementation of the music for orchestra and choir.

The work premiered on July 23, 2014 at the Royal Albert Hall in London by the Pet Shop Boys, the BBC concert orchestra, conducted by Dominic Wheeler and the BBC Singers on the opening night of the BBC Late Night Proms . One critic reported that the moving and highly condensed texts about Turing and the perfect harmony between orchestra and computer music had thrilled the London premiere audience.

The lyrics in the piece are based on the work Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges , who worked with Tennant and Lowe.
