Aaron Copland School of Music

The Aaron Copland School of Music (ACSM) is one of the oldest and most respected departments of Queens College in New York City , founded in 1937, the year Queens College was founded.

The curriculum originally came from Edwin Stringham . Later Saul Novack (board member of ACSM from 1961 to 1966) shifted the focus to Heinrich Schenker's analytical approach .

In 1980, the Department of Music officially became a School of Music , eventually taking the name of the famous American composer Aaron Copland .
