Abba bar Abba
Abba bar Abba was a 1st generation Amora in Babylonia, usually named the father of Samuel after his famous son . Like all Amoraeans known by name today, he was a scholar of the Jewish scriptures and was praised by his contemporaries for his great piety, his charitable attitude and his eagerness to learn.
He emigrated to Palestine, where he came into contact with Patriarch Yehuda I , with whose student Levi bar Sisi he was close friends. When Levi died, Abba gave the address to the dead and honored his friend with an honorable memory.
