Abbas Mortada

Abbas Mortada ( Arabic عباس مرتضى, DMG ʿAbbās Murtaḍā ; * March 6, 1981 ) is a Lebanese politician. From January to August 2020 he was Minister for Agriculture and Culture in the Diab cabinet .

Live and act

Abbas Mortada studied law at the Islamic University in Lebanon (2004–2007), then history at the Lebanese International University (2010–2013) and completed his studies with a master's degree in history at the Lebanese University in Beirut. In particular, he examined the development of currency relations in Lebanon and their social and tax effects between 1939 and 1949. Mortada is a PhD student in history in 2019/20 and has written a dissertation with the title Challenges in Egyptian-British Relations at Beirut Arab University. In addition, Mortada is a member of the national authority for the protection of the litani as well as the protection committee of the Orontes (Nahr el-Assi) and director of the office of the Irshad association in the Bekaa plain .

From 2015 to 2019 he was General Manager of the al-Khayal Hotel (or the Cavalier in the Bekaa Plain ) and General Manager of the real estate company al-Khayal. He is married to Roula Hamiyé and has two children. On January 21, 2020, as a representative of the Shiite community and at the suggestion of the Amal movement, he was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Culture in Hassan Diab's cabinet.

After Hassan Diab resigned as Prime Minister on August 10, 2020, the minister remained in office until a new cabinet was formed.
