Abbeanum in Jena

The Abbeanum is a teaching and research building of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . It was built in the Bauhaus style from 1929 to 1930 with funds from the Carl Zeiss Foundation founded by Ernst Abbe . The former Bauhaus student Professor Ernst Neufert was won over as the architect . At that time the building was used by the Optical Institute and the Institute for Applied Mathematics.

The institute wing of the Abbeanum was badly damaged in the American bombing raids in 1945 and was rebuilt by 1951.

The Abbeanum, reconstructed from 1993 to 1995, currently houses the Institute for Applied Optics , the Theoretical-Physical Institute and Solid State Theory of the Institute for Solid State Theory and Optics of the Physics-Astronomical Faculty of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . In addition, courses are held by the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science .
