Abd al-Aziz Duwaik (* 1948 in Egypt ; Arabic عبد العزيز دويك ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Duwaik , often also called Abdelaziz / Abdulaziz Dweik , also known as West Bank-Rantisi ) is the President of the Palestinian Parliament ( Palestinian Legislative Council ).

Life

Abd al-Aziz Duwaik is a member of Hamas and, by January 2012, had already been held five times in Israeli detention. In 1992 he was expelled from Israel to Lebanon. "Side by side with the Hamas boss Abdel Asis Rantisi , who was executed by Israel two years ago , Dweik became the spokesman for the deportees, which earned him the nickname 'West Bank Rantisi'". He was charged with membership in a terrorist organization and contact with the Hamas leadership in Damascus and sentenced to three years in prison. He was released early on June 23, 2009.

According to press reports, Abd al-Aziz Duwaik is a proponent of a two-state solution. “If Israel begins to recognize our rights, we will begin to recognize Israel” ( Berliner Zeitung , August 7, 2006). On January 19, 2012, Israel arrested Abd al-Aziz Duwaik again.
