Abdel Rahim Mohammed Hussein ( Arabic عبد الرحيم محمد حسين, DMG ʿAbd ar-Raḥīm Muḥammad Ḥusain , * 1949 in Dunqula ) was Minister of the Interior and Defense of the Republic of Sudan .

biography

From 1993 to 2005 he was Minister of the Interior and then Minister of Defense. During his tenure as Minister of the Interior, he opened the National Ribat University (NRU). In later years he was charged with aiding the Janjawid and war crimes. These allegations were denied by him and the government.

On December 2, 2011, Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo moved the International Criminal Court , the pre-trial chamber of the court, to issue an arrest warrant for Abdel Rahim Mohammed Hussein for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

On March 1, 2012, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against him.

In the wake of the 2019 coup , Hussein was arrested for corruption and the death of demonstrators.
