Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed al-Wasil

Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed al-Wasil ( Arabic عبد العزيز بن محمد الواصل, DMG ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Muḥammad al-Wāṣil ; * 1960 ) is a Saudi diplomat .

Career

On April 16, 2015, he represented the Saudi Ambassador to the Court of St James’s at the opening of the Saudi Pavilion at the London Book Fair . Since November 17, 2016 he has been permanent representative of the Saudi government to the United Nations Office in Geneva . On March 8, 2017, he presented the efforts of the Saudi government to protect and strengthen children's rights to the UN Human Rights Council .

On August 28, 2018, he represented the Saudi government when a report was presented by three experts, which the UN Human Rights Council had requested on the occasion of the Dahyan air strike on August 9, 2018. Three experts from the UN Human Rights Council reported that the governments of Yemen , the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia may have been responsible for war crimes such as rape, torture, disappearances and "deprivation of the right to life" during the military intervention in Yemen since 2015 . In their first report for the Human Rights Council, the experts also refer to possible crimes by rebels of the Shia militia in Yemen, who have been fighting against the Saudi Arabia-led coalition and the government of Yemen since March 2015.

In his September 13, 2017 statement, Wasil alleged that Saudi Arabia had alleviated the suffering of the Yemenis.
