The Abel Lake is a 6.6 hectare lake in Westland District in the region West Coast on the South Island of New Zealand .
It is located in the Southern Alps 35 km east of Franz Josef / Waiau . The lake is fed by the Abel Glacier . The outflow is a short stream that flows into the Perth River .
